Thomas S. Monson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced that worthy and able young men aged 18 years will be able to serve missions. They must have already graduated high school. Young women 19 and older will also be able to serve. These changes are optional. as spiritual and financial preparedness are important considerations.
Other aspects of this change include: an added responsibility on youth and their parents to prepare for missionary service, time in missionary training centers will be reduced by 1/3, the center in Provo, Utah will expand staff and housing facilities, an additional training program will be implemented for missionaries in the field, and prospective missionaries may be recommended by their bishops up to 120 days prior to their availability.
